Top 10 Wedding Flowers Tuesday, Jul 15 2008

Many brides now choose unconventional dresses, locations, and meals for their weddings, but some things never seem to change – the selection of flowers. The list of top ten wedding flowers has remained unchanged for many years.

At the top of the list are the lilies. Calla Lilies and Casablanca Lilies are both large and impressive flowers, often arranged as solo stems. Hydrangeas and Gardenias are next on the list of popular wedding flowers. These small flowers grow as flower heads, making them perfect for small bouquets.

Purple lilacs, symbolizing first love, and white lilacs, symbolizing innocence are also popular wedding flowers. Along with Lily of the Valley (also known as Our Lady’s Tears), lilacs have a long history of references in literature and the Bible.

One of the oldest known flowers, the orchid, is also popular among brides. Pollen from a previously unknown orchid, Meliorchis caribea, was found trapped in a piece of amber that is believed to be over 15 million years old. Orchids vary tremendously in how they look and how they smell – in fact, vanilla is one of just many types of orchids.

Stephanotis, which is commonly known as Jasmine, is one of the most popular flowers for wedding bouquets. Known for both its delicate beauty and incredible perfume, jasmine has always been a favorite.

Rounding out the list of the top 10 wedding flowers is, of course, the tulip and the rose. Few weddings would be complete without at least one of these beautiful flowers in sight. Many bridegrooms choose to wear a single rose, and many brides choose to create a bouquet completely out of blooming roses. Tulips, the pride of Holland, are often used in dinner table arrangements.

Whatever type of wedding flower you choose for your arrangements and bouquets, importance must be placed first and foremost on freshness. It is vital that all flowers are cut as close to the actual ceremony as possible, and many brides choose to have the flower arrangements created the morning of the ceremony.

5 Tips To Save On Your Wedding Flowers Monday, Jul 7 2008

Wedding flowers can sometimes be a big expense for your wedding so I am going to provide you with a few tips on how to cut the cost of your wedding flowers budget.

1. Purchase the flowers from your local grocery store and design the flowers yourself. Below is a video where I show you how to design your own wedding flowers.

2. Find a local florist that has just opened or a new wedding flower designer that is trying to build their portfolio. Most new florist will be willing to provide you with a sample bouquet so you can see the type of work they are capable of producing.

3. Choose flowers that are in season and are low end such as roses, daisies, tulips, and carnations.

4. If you have chosen your florist already see if she or he would be willing to allow you to help them with the designing of the flowers to help cut down on the labor the cost.

5. Use single stem flowers for your bridal party instead of an entire bouquet. One long stem Calla Lilly or Red Rose being carried along the crease of the arm, will stand out more than the average bouquet and save you lots of money.
